Counseling teenagers can be difficult when traditional talk therapy may serve as a barrier in communication. A great deal of resistance may exist when working with teens because of their internal and external developmental transition from child to adult.
At Lumen Behavioral Health, counselors equip themselves with a variety of creative techniques that promote both verbal and nonverbal expression in a way that is therapeutic rather than stigmatizing. This allows teenage clients the ability to communicate their thoughts, behaviors, and feelings in a non-traditional way. We offer a non-judgmental, supportive and validating space where teens can talk freely about everything that is happening in their lives.
Whether you are experiencing relationship difficulties, stress at work, anxiety, depression, or just don’t feel like you are on the right path, with individual counseling, we will help you learn skills to find solutions while deepening your understanding of yourself.
The therapeutic process helps you make positive life changes by exploring your thought patterns and emotions, dealing with your inner critic, and changing unhealthy behaviors. Our goal in therapy is for you to see lasting growth and change, to become happier and more fulfilled.
Family therapy is designed to address specific behavioral issues that affect the psychological health of family structure. We work with parents helping them understand their child’s challenges and strengths and how they can nurture their child’s psychological development. Family counseling aims to promote understanding and collaboration among family members in order to solve the problems of one or more individuals in the household.
Our counseling approach is strength-based, solution-focused and DBT- teaching the family coping skills to decrease identified target behaviors.
